He was known for his sense of ‘Epic theatre’ Did not allow audiences to identify emotionally with characters or actions but provoked rational self-reflection and critical review of the scenes

He wanted people to recognize social injustice and exploitation from the scenes and inspire actions towards the outside world

His ideal was to recognize the scene as a representation of reality but not reality itself

Throughout the movie: sound was cut, scenes dragged on, pauses throughout, and lots of exaggerated scenes Forces audience to be an active critic for every moment of the film, to never absorb it as reality
