2  Monologue: A speech given by a single actor to another character or the audience.  Can be comedic or dramatic  Character’s own thoughts and emotions  Directed to a specific audience  Not to be confused with a soliloquy, which is similar, but the speech is not directed at a specific audience.

4  Description of Character  Research it  Create it  What information can you find from play itself?  What will you have to create?

5  The ultimate goal of the character  What the character “wants”.  All action should drive towards obtaining the super-objective.  This is determined before any work is done towards the performing of the monologue.

6  With super-objective in mind…  Emotional beats - /  Shifts or changes in emotions or tactics  Usually indicate a need for a change in voice or pause  Important Words - underline  Find the MOST IMPORTANT word in each sentence  Stress it or drive to that word
