MR. PERRY WOODBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL Facing History and Ourselves Course Introduction

Topics we will cover Unit 1: Identity and Membership Unit 2: The Holocaust Unit 3: Genocide and Genocide Prevention Unit 4: Social Issues (Civil Rights Movement/Immigration/Gangs) Unit 5: Terrorism and 9/11

Grading Major Assessments (Essays/Projects) 50% Minor Assessments 50% Class Participation 25% Journal (Homework, Classwork) 25%

Major Assignments You will complete at minimum, 6 essays There will also be multiple projects each semester

Minor Assessments Homework: Very rare, when given it is expected you will complete assignments to prepare for following days discussion Class Participation: I expect all students to participate EVERY SINGLE DAY…I will assign a Class Participation grade each week

Expectations and Rules No Food or Drinks (Water is ok) No Cell Phones unless I instruct otherwise! (especially when someone is addressing the room!) As seniors (most of you) I expect that you will be mature and capable of handling some very serious topics, never make jokes or insensitive comments that may upset your classmates or me

Things you should be prepared for: Discussing topics such as religion, race, gender, ethnicity and politics Reading and viewing some disturbing material Participating in class discussion Public Speaking, you will give numerous presentations in front of the class throughout the semester

Woodbridge PD Community Outreach Members from the Woodbridge PD will be in class multiple times a month to discuss current issues facing our town, state and country They will answer your questions and provide opportunities for role reversal If you do not agree with something they say you have the right to express yourself, however, at no point should you be rude or disrespectful Detective Zeno, Detective Slossberg and Detective Ransom along with other officers who join us are doing this on there own time because they think it is valuable for you
