Bioscience PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

Spend one minute thinking back to a time when you have witnessed something like a car crash, a crime, or when you lost something and had to recall what happened. Write down why it was important to recall all the minor details of the events. Be ready to share. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

Objectives By the end of the period you should be able to:  Set up a legal scientific lab notebook  List the parts in order of a lab report  Identify all necessary components of a graph, and explain the importance of a legal scientific lab notebook  Maintain a legal scientific lab notebook when doing future labs

Importance  A legal scientific notebook acts as a legal document that verifies your research. It is often needed when patenting inventions or to verify what happened in an experiment to tell you what may have gone wrong or how someone else can duplicate your work. It is what allows you to verify getting credit for a discovery.

 Number every page in your notebook starting with the front side of the first page as number 1.  Assign page one the title page. Write the following information in the middle of the page: [Course Name] Notebook Period: # School’s Name Teacher’s Name Student’s Name Today’s Date  Write this information on the front cover.  Title pages 2 and 3 as “Table of Contents.” PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

With your partner, place the steps of a lab report in the correct order and be ready to explain why your group chose that order. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

Parts of a Lab Report  Problem/Question  Hypothesis  Materials  Procedures  Data/Observations  Analysis  Conclusion

What’s missing?

 Think back to the bellwork  Discuss with your partner the importance of keeping a detailed legal scientific lab notebook  Be ready to share PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

List 5 or more items or procedures that you will be required to do to properly maintain your lab notebooks each time a lab is conducted. PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,

When reflecting on the importance of keeping a legal scientific lab notebook, how would the statement “If it is not written down, it did not happen” apply? PROPERTY OF PIMA COUNTY JTED,
