DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND Originated from the National Forum for Lifelong Learning Networks Project managed by UVAC Collaborative development: Universities (including Middlesex) FE Colleges Employers Sector Skills Councils Professional Bodies

THE FOUNDATION DEGREE APPROACH Used to deliver and assess both the knowledge and competency requirements Prior to this only knowledge component was assessed A more inclusive approach based on parity of equality with non-vocational learners

THE FRAMEWORK The framework consists of: Functional skills in English & Maths at Level 2 – a variety of qualifications can be used Integrated Personal Learning & Thinking Skills – not taught separately but assessed separately Equality & Diversity – employer law rights & responsibilities, health & safety: all delivered but not credit based Accreditation of Prior & Experiential Learning is part of the framework

FINAL POINTS Delivery is flexible – to meet the needs of employers and employees This development moves on from FDs being an ‘add on’ It becomes an integrated part of the framework
