Knights of Columbus Flag Relay for Special Olympics Ontario is the first jurisdiction to be entrusted with the use of the Special Olympics flag for its Special Olympics activities. T he Flag Relay serves as an umbrella under which we conduct our various fundraising and public awareness activities for Special Olympics, such as Adopt An Athlete/Team, Tootsie Rolls Fundraiser, Hometown Games, Blue Jays Day, 50/50 Draws, just to name a few. E ach Diocesan Association and its Zones has a Special Olympics flag to coordinate Flag Relay events in their area. Flags are available to Districts & Councils for their own Special Olympics programs. The cost is $125 per flag.

Knights of Columbus Flag Relay for Special Olympics O ORGANIZING A FLAG RAISING EVENT IN SUPPORT OF YOUR LOCAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEAM AND ATHLETES S elect a location (school, Knights’ hall, City Hall, police station, etc.), a time and a place to hold the flag raising event. Contact your Diocesan Association or Zone to insure that the Special Olympics flag is available for the day of your event. Contact Special Olympics Ontario to arrange for the Special Olympians and their families to be in attendance. Invite members of your Council, District, Squires and the Fourth Degree Colour Corps to take part in this event. Issue a press release, contact the local press, invite dignitaries, such as representatives of the Knights, politicians, police, etc. Please submit articles and pictures to Special Olympics Director.

DISTRICT DEVELOPERS Each Region is supported by a Special Olympics Ontario District Developer who is responsible for assisting communities in all aspects of growth and development, which includes athletes, volunteers, school programs and sports clubs. In your area, the District Developer is your contact person with Special Olympics.

VOLUNTEERS The District Developers have been able to continually count on the support of the Knights in their area, especially whenever there has been a need for volunteers. Special Olympics Athlete’s Oath “Let me win, But if I cannot win, Let me be brave in the attempt.“ Special Olympics Volunteer Oath "I promise to give of the time in my life so that Special Olympics athletes can have the time of their lives. I promise to support Special Olympics not just as an expression of charity, but as a form of respect for my fellow human beings. I promise to spread the word of volunteerism because, in giving, I receive so much more in return.“

HOMETOWN GAMES are the local competitions held in the communities where the Special Olympians live. Why not consider… HOSTING AN EVENT SPONSORING AN EVENT BEING A VOLUNTEER
