3 DISTRICT DEVELOPERS Each District is supported by a Special Olympics Ontario District Developer who is responsible for assisting communities in all aspects of growth and development, which includes athletes, volunteers, school programs and sports clubs. In your Region, the District Developer is your contact person with Special Olympics.

4 COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Consider becoming active in the Special Olympics program in your area… Sports Programs Sports Competitions Administration Fundraising

5 VOLUNTEERS The District Developers have been able to continually count on the support of the Knights in their area, especially whenever there has been a need for volunteers. Memorial Swim Meet in December 2010 Winter/Spring Basketball League 2010/11 New Special Olympics Council in Aurora Bowling Tournament in January 2011 Special Olympics Volunteer Oath "I promise to give of the time in my life so that Special Olympics athletes can have the time of their lives. I promise to support Special Olympics not just as an expression of charity, but as a form of respect for my fellow human beings. I promise to spread the word of volunteerism because, in giving, I receive so much more in return.“

6 HOMETOWN GAMES are the local competitions held in the communities where the Special Olympians live. Why not consider… HOSTING AN EVENT SPONSORING AN EVENT BEING A VOLUNTEER

8 Invite a Special Olympian to speak at one of your Councils’ General Meetings. Many Special Olympians meet the criteria for membership in either the Knights of Columbus or the Columbian Squires. MEMBERSHIP M

12 TORONTO BLUE JAYS DAY Saturday July 16 th (Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay) Sponsor tickets for Special Olympians at $25 each K of C can attend the game at the same reduced rate On field benefits for Special Olympians include 7th inning stretch, cheque presentation and first pitch.

13 A SPECIAL DAY WITH THE BLUE JAYS FIRST PITCH 7TH INNING STRETCH WELCOME TABLE CHEQUE PRESENTATION

14 FREE THROW AND SOCCER CHALLENGE Special Olympics Ontario has shown an interest in participating in both the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition and Soccer Challenge. Councils and Districts are asked to please invite and assist the Special Olympians in their areas to take part in the different levels of competition (School, Council, District, etc.).

15 FUNDRAISING The Ontario Knights have raised over $84,000 for Special Olympics during 2009/2010… 50/50 Draws – $40,000 Donations – $27,500 (including funds for Hometown Games) Tootsie Rolls – $16,700
