Ancient Greece The principals of the camera obscura go back to the time of Ancient Greece. It was when Aristole saw how light was passing through a small hole into a darkened room and produces an image on the wall.

1826 Joseph Nicéphore Niépce made the first permanent camera photograph with a camera obscura.

1839 A man named Louis Daguerre worked with Niépce. After Niépce’s death in 1833 he continued the research they were both working on. Then he discovered that putting the image in salt would make the image permanent. He then sold it to the French government in Which he named the Daguerreotype.

1844 William Henry Fox Talbot patented the Calotype which didn’t make better quality pictures than the Daguerreotype, but made could make many copies of the picture from one negative.

1851 Frederick Scott Archer’s Collodion process made exposure time three seconds instead of hours.

1861 James Clerk-Maxwell gave the first demonstration of color photography he arranged tartan ribbon. Each photo was made using black and white slides, and then the slides are exposed through red, green, and blue filters. Then he projected the images at the same time, and it created a color image on the srceen.

1862 Abbe Giovanna Caselli became the first person to transmit a still image over wires with the Pantelegraph.

1877 Eadweard Muybridge took a picture of a horse galloping, and it proved that all four hooves of a horse leave the ground at the same time.

1888 George Eastman introduced the box camera which was the first camera sold to the general public.

1907 The first commercial color film is developed.

1926 John Logie Baird and a team of others gave the first demonstration of recognizable image of a human face over his television system.

1927 The Jazz Singer was the first movie with sound.

1936 Kodachrome, multi-layered color film, is developed.

1937 Photojournalism becomes an important part of reporting WWII news

1952 Hollywood introduces Cinerama and 3-D.
