REQUIRED MATERIALS! The following materials are required for this class: 1-2 GREEN college ruled spiral notebooks just for science!! 1 GREEN pocket folder Pens/Pencils AT ALL TIMES!!

Behavior Expectations Respect ALL students/staff/school property Come to class prepared and on time Participate and be engaged

SCIENCE CURRICULUM Chemistry Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter Chemical Reactions Periodic Table: elements, compounds and mixtures Structure of the atom Cells and Genetics Cell division, growth, repair Heredity DNA, genes, chromosome, genotype and phenotype Motion and Forces Newton’s Laws Relationship between energy, motion, simple machines, work, and power Ecology Compare relationships among species Behavioral cycles of animal Adaptations that allow for survival

Learning Goals Based on State and College and Career Ready standards Drive Instruction Determine student’s grade

Basic Learning Goal Scale 4 Demonstrations of learning that go above and beyond what was explicitly taught in class 3 The learning goal or state standard- This is where we want students to be! 2 Foundational knowledge, simple procedures, isolated details, vocabulary- what students should know before getting to a 3 1 With help, students can perform at level 2

Quarter Grades 90%Assessment 10% Practice You will see 2-3 Summative tests and several quizzes (Check ins) per quarter = 90% Practice work = 10%

Conversion Scale to Traditional Grades Average Scale Score across Multiple Goals Traditional Grade A A A B B B C C C D D D- Below 1.00F 4.0 Scale will be entered and averaged for a final grade. Example: Tests for Quarter 1: Standard A: 3 Standard B: 3.5 Standard C: 2.5 AVERAGE: 3.0 GRADE: A-

What makes it advanced? Students will complete activities and projects that go deeper into content to enhance their understanding. Increase depth of knowledge of the subject. Moving through easier content quicker. How does the workload differ from Science More time for extension projects. Increase rigor, but not an increase in homework. Advanced Science

Interactive Science Notebook Students will be responsible for all activities Activities and instructions will be posted on my website Students will receive a notebook grade each quarter for completed activities

Class Projects/Experiments DNA MOLECULE FAMILY PEDIGREE OF A TRAIT BALLOON CAR PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHANGES DNA EXTRACTION

How can you help?? Take minutes a day to make sure your student is on top of what they are doing in class. Check their grades on the parent portal. Check my website for assignments Keep in contact with me!
