Hadith Session 4 – Part 2 Ramzan Shahid

Surah Hujaraat (49), Ayat 12 “O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion (assumptions). Indeed some assumptions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it, and fear Allah. Verily Allah is the one who forgives and accepts repentance, most merciful.”

Making Assumptions Never make a bad assumption about another person Always give them the benefit of the doubt Example ◦ Didn’t see a brother in the masjid for prayer ◦ We assume he must have missed skipped prayer ◦ Instead we should give benefit of the doubt – he probably prayed at another masjid

Judging Others/Criticizing Being able to complain and criticize is human nature We all have this in us, we cannot get rid of it What we need to do is channel it in the right direction

Criticizing Others Channel complaints and criticism away from other people and towards our own selves We are always complaining about our circumstance, our situation, our interactions with other people

Criticizing Others We should criticize/critique ourselves instead Prophet Yousuf’s dua, indeed I have wronged myself I have not worshipped Allah the way He deserves to be worshipped I have not thanked Allah the way He deserves to be thanked

Complaining It is easy to complain about everything around us It is hard to direct those complaints against us. In reality we have no reason to complain ◦ Need to make more money, nicer car, bigger house ◦ My internet connection is slow, my food had too much salt, my xbox is not working ◦ I don’t have good reception on my cell phone

Complaining So many people around the world are suffering and here we are complaining of our insignificant things Complaining means you are not thankful for what Allah has given you

Complaining If we have some complaint, it should be about our inability to be who we should be as a Muslim Inability to reach a level a worship worthy of being presented to the most perfect Being

Being Positive Always pick out the positive in a person Never pick out their faults

Hadith A companion asked who is better, me or Hadrat Abu Bakr, Hadrat Umar The companion asked this because the Prophet always made him feel special, Prophet treated him that way, always found the positive in him

Being Positive We want Allah to deal with us positively on the Day of Judgment. We want Him to find the positive in us We want him to find a positive deed (even though we have so little of them and they are hard to find) We want this deed to be an excuse for forgiveness and be put into Heaven due to this deed

Being Positive If we desire to be dealt with in this positive manner on the Day of Judgment, then we must deal with others in a positive way first in this world. We must find the positive in others We must not look for faults in others, otherwise Allah will find faults in us on the Day of Judgment

Being Positive We have a tendency to look for faults in others, look for the negative in them We see the 20 things that are bad in them on overlook the one good thing in them. Instead we should overlook the 20 bad things and focus on the one good thing

Being Positive People will be attracted to you if you always positive and find the positive in every situation and every person Best way to do Dawah People will follow you, respect you, want to be with you, want to spend time with you

Hadith “A Mu’min is one who is sociable with others. There is no good in one who is not sociable with others nor in one who is not met sociably with them.”

Correcting Others with Kindness A man came to Madinah from the desert, and he did not know that it is forbidden to speak during the salaah. He said: “Whilst I was praying behind the Messenger of Allah (SAW), a man sneezed, so I said ‘Yarhamuk Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you).’

Correcting Others with Kindness The people glared at me, so I said, ‘May my mother lose me! What is wrong with you that you are looking at me?’ They began to slap their thighs with their hands, and when I saw that they were indicating that I should be quiet, I stopped talking.

Correcting Others with Kindness When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had finished praying – I have never seen a better teacher than him before or since – he did not rebuke me or hit me or put me to shame. He just said, ‘This prayer should contain nothing of the speech of men; it is only tasbeeh and takbeer and recitation of the Qur’aan.’”

Correcting Others with Kindness God’s messenger was sitting in the mosque with some of his companions when a Bedouin urinated inside the mosque. The Prophet’s companions said: ‘What is going on?’ ‘What are you doing?’ The Prophet said to them: ‘Do not interrupt him.’

Correcting Others with Kindness He subsequently called the man and said to him: ‘These mosques are not the place where one can throw any dirt, urine or stools. They are meant for reciting the Qur’an, glorifying God and prayer.’ He then called for a bucket of water and he poured it over the urine.”
