Other weather expressions that do NOT use “hace” are: El tiempo : ¿ Qué tiempo hace ? What is the weather like? / How is the weather? Hace buen tiempo. It is good weather. Hace mal tiempo. It is bad weather. Hace frío. It is cold. Hace calor. It is hot. Hace fresco. It is cool. Hace viento. It is windy. Hace sol. It is sunny. Other weather expressions that do NOT use “hace” are: Llueve.* It is raining. Nieva. It is snowing. Está nublado. It is cloudy. You may also hear the expression “Está lloviendo” for “It is raining.”

Here are some examples of e to ie stem changing verbs: ar verbs er verbs ir verbs cerrar- to close perder — to lose preferir — to prefer empezar - to begin querer— to want, to like, to love   pensar - to think, to plan La clase empieza a las 8:30 de la mañana. The class starts at 8:30 a.m. Juan piensa ir al cine. Juan plans to go to the movies. Ana quiere comprar unos zapatos. Ana wants to buy some shoes. Yo prefiero comer pollo. I prefer to eat chicken.

Here are some examples of o to ue stem changing verbs: ar verbs er verbs ir verbs almorzar- to eat lunch poder — to be able to, can dormir — to sleep contar- to count, to tell volver— to return   encontrar- to find, to meet mostrar- to show Yo puedo nadar muy bien. I can swim very well. La profesora cuenta los libros. The teacher counts the books. Ellos almuerzan en la cafetería. They have lunch in the cafeteria. Juan vuelve a su casa a las 4:00 de la tarde. Juan returns home at 4:00 p.m. Yo duermo bien. I sleep well.

Only verb changes from u→ ue in the Present Tense : jugar Jugar - to play sports or games Mis amigos juegan al béisbol después de la escuela.
