 Cars are a necessity in the U.S.  Hundreds of millions of people rely on their cars everyday  Cars need regular maintenance in order to remain dependable  Car batteries normally last 3 – 4 years  It is beneficial to learn how to jump start your car battery just in case it suddenly dies on you

 Jumper cables  A friend with a working car

 1 st : Open the hood of both cars  2 nd : Connect the positive (red) end of the jumper cables to the positive knob (it should be labeled with a +) of the dead battery.

 3 rd : Connect the positive (red) end of the jumper cables to the positive knob (it should be labeled with a +) of the working battery.

 4 th : Connect the negative (black) end of the jumper cables to the negative knob (it should be labeled with a -) of the working battery.

 5 th : Connect the negative (black) end of the jumper cables to a metal part of the car with the dead battery (normally a knob on the engine block that isn’t painted works fine)  6 th : Have your friend start their car  7 th : Start your car  8 th : Have your friend turn their car off

 9 th : Remove all cables and close all hoods  10 th : Leave your car running for at least a half an hour to recharge your alternator
