Master Schedule Open Lab / Config. Forum

Agenda General discussion / overview of the master schedule process Timelines and task lists How various master schedule designs impact: attendance, student scheduling, report cards, master schedule reports, etc... Benefits and consequences of building interdisciplinary teams and common preps for content areas into a master schedule “What can I do right now besides course requests?” What is a 4x4? What is “ground zero” in my master schedule design? What is a wheel and how does it work? How can I group my students by ability level?

“Teaching you how to cook!”

Planning for Success February MarchAprilMayJuneJuly-Aug Begin design of your master schedule Enter course requests Verify track config Submit track config. to IT Depart. Begin construction of Master Schedule Initial load of students Check schedule for errors Continue minor adjustments to master schedule

Lessons Learned The Triangle concept – determining your priorities – what is on top will be done, but the bottom gets the “leftovers” The “baseball” – building a schedule is like rolling string around a ball. If you want to change the core at the end then you need to unravel it. Teams can drive the master schedule. If all 6th graders get PE period 6 then all 7th graders have to have a core class during that time. 8th graders are further restricted Lessons learned regarding teaming Do you want to do it? Pros and cons of teaming – what am I trying to achieve? Prioritize needs Plan ahead – should identify needs in February/March. Need to start now Communication is key between thinkers and doers

"Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another” -John Dewey
