Welcome to Algebra 1

Project Connect Themes: Similarities and differences Change and adaptation Ethics GL goes green, ethics, aesthetics, school pride Problem solving

Daily Routine Warm up (always on side board) Check homework Lesson Classwork or group work Assign homework (always on side board and posted to Classroom on the stream) Will usually do a lesson a day (necessary to get through curriculum)

Homework Every night (with exception) Full credit given if all problems done (or attempted) and work shown for all problems Partial credit given if some problems are not done, work not shown, late No credit given if majority of work is not done Will be posted on side board and on Classroom stream Students start each quarter with 100% for homework, points are subtracted, grade weighted mid- and end-marking period.

Homework cont'd Homework will be checked everyday and questions answered Homework is approximately 10% of marking period grade Homework quizzes may be given Homework grade will be updated in power school every few days Accurate homework completion is key to your child's success in this class

Tests and Quizzes Tests are counted twice, quizzes once All grades are percents even though each test or quiz is not out of 100 points Usually 1 or 2 quizzes and 1 test per chapter Sheet in notebook on ways to study All tests/quizzes may contain material previously learned Due to the elimination of midterms, I may be giving a quarterly exam at the end of each marking period

Report Card Grade Based on tests, quizzes, and homework Occasionally there will be graded assignments or projects Please check Power School frequently Grades will not be rounded each marking period Grades will be rounded at the end of the year when calculating the final course grade

Extra Help Given during lunch Many students take advantage of this

Helpful Websites for Algebra 1 My website has a list of sites to help with algebra (access from bhspnj.org)bhspnj.org Video tutorials, practice quizzes, tests There are also MANY free apps to help with any math topic. We will use Khan Academy frequently

Absence Work needs to be made up in a timely manner for credit and to help with understanding the following lessons Missed assignments can be found on the Classroom stream Missed lessons can be found in the textbook and on the textbook websites

iPads Students are expected to have their iPads in class and charged every day While in class, students are expected to only use iPads for math work (online text, checking blog, math apps, class investigations) Taking notes and doing homework on the iPad are not recommended in my math classes

Calculators Calculators will be used in Algebra 1 after the first quiz We will use TI-84 Students are NOT required to bring a calculator If students bring calculators, they should be labeled A recommended calculator to take the student through senior year and standardized tests is TI-84...Ebay, Walmart, Staples, Target...

Parent/Teacher Communication Almost all of my correspondence will be done through Feel free to contact me any time by at My phone extension is 2357, however I will be able to get and respond to faster I will send out mass from time to time
