GCSE Music Cove School Music Department

Why GCSE Music? Do you perform better with course work than examinations? Are you creative? Do you enjoy practical activities? If you have answered Yes to any of the above then Music may be for you

What will I be doing for the next two years? You will learn techniques so you can create your own music You will practice performing using either an instrument or your voice You will listen to a range of different types of music to highlight examples of technical knowledge and skills

Do I need to be able to play an instrument now? Yes. You must be able to play a musical instrument or have an exceptional singing ability if you are to achieve a good grade in music.

Course work or exams? 25% of your marks will be for composing your own music 25% of your marks will come from you performing both on your own and with others 25% will come from an integrated assignment which will be produced in class over a period of time 25% will be based on a written examination paper based upon listening, identifying and evaluating music
