Pixel Stripixel Silicon VTX detector system Silicon VTX system consists of : 4 layers of silicon detectors 2 inner pixel hybrid detectors at radius R1=2.5 cm and R2=5cm. 2 outer strip-pixel detectors at radius R3=10 cm and R4 =14 cm. 2 big wheels to hold ladder transfer data boards (LDTBs) Cooling system for ladder assembly. 5 Silicon Barrels Big wheels 12/2/2015S. Taneja -- DNP Conference, Santa Fe Nov 1-6

Silicon Strip Sensor (New technology: unique to PHENIX) The sensor is finely segmented detector with 80 μm x 1000 μm pixels. Each pixel region has two serpentine-shaped metal strips A metal strip connects those serpentines that are in a straight line (X-direction), second strip connects serpentines that are at 4.6 degree angle (U-direction). Sensor is 34.9 mm x 64.6 mm, with 6 sections of bond pads on either lateral edge, with 128 channels per section for a total 1536 channel per sensor. 612/2/2015S. Taneja -- DNP Conference, Santa Fe Nov 1-6

Silicon Strip Module Silicon Strip Module: a strip sensor and 12 SVX4 chips bonded to read-out- card (ROC). two sets of wire-bonds; SVX4 to board and 128 bonds from sensor pads to front-end of the SVX4. SVX4 chips are grouped into 3 and called a “hybrid”. a silicone-based encapsulation glue covering both sets of bonds for protection. 7 Top view Silicon sensor SVX4 chips ROC 8 bit ADC 128 channel / chip 3 mW / channel 12/2/2015S. Strip-Pixel Ladder Assembly 8 42 ladders built and tested successfully 12/2/2015S. Taneja -- DNP Conference, Santa Fe Nov 1-6

RCC LDTB FEM The Front End Electronics The read out electronics: Readout control card (RCC) Flex circuit, two wings, controls timing of readout from SVX4. Ladder Data Transfer Board (LDTB) printed circuit board component, connects FEM to RCCs via BUS, provides power regulation for components on the ladder. Front End Module (FEM) Interface between DAq and LDTB, optical receiver for serialized data from LDTB, external clock signal to LDTB, FPGA for event by event pedestal correction. 912/2/2015S. Taneja -- DNP Conference, Santa Fe Nov 1-6

Ladder Testing Setup Ladder testing steps: Ladder sits in an air tight dark box. Nitrogen used to bring down the humidity. Coolant runs through from chiller to bring down the temperature. A low voltage of 5 V and a bias line of 200 V is supplied. Channel and ADC pedestal data is taken. 10 Ladder Bubbler Temp=0 deg C Humidity=0% Voltage=200V 12/2/2015S.
