Overview of PHENIX Muon Tracker Data Analysis PHENIX Muon Tracker Muon Tracker Software Muon Tracker Database Muon Event Display Performance Muon Reconstruction Status Summary DongJo Kim, Yonsei University For PHENIX collabration First Joint Meeting of the Nuclear Physics Divisions of APS and JPS October 17, 2001, Maui, Hawaii

Three stations of cathode strip chambers per arm Three gaps in stations 1 and 2, two gaps at station3 Two cathode planes readout per gap Less than 100  m spatial resolution per cathode for Mev South Arm installed(Nov 18,2000) PHENIX Muon Tracker Fitted Cluster position SN

Detector Response Zero Suppress Zero Suppress to Raw Data Apply Calibrations Find Cathode Clusters Fit Cathode Clusters Pattern Recognition Muon Identification Write DST MuID roads and Vertex Tracking Finding with momentum determination Muon Tracker Software Real Data Put DCM(Data Collection Module) packets into PHENIX RAW Data Format Contiguous hit strips Gain and pedestal calibration

A Stub is a group of fitted cluster peak positions Muon Event

Computing Environment Computing Resources Linux (RedHat 6.1,Kernel 2.2.18,GCC 2.95.3) ROOT(ROOT 3.01/05) PHOOL(PHenix Object Oriented Library): C++ class library (PHOOL) based on top of ROOT GNU build system  autoconf, automake, libtool code development tools  tinderbox, cvsweb… Local Disks Database Reconstruction Farm Calibrations & Run Info Raw Data DST Data Big Disk HPSS Mining & Staging Analysis Jobs Tag DB Counting House Pretty Big Disk Raw Data

Mutr database Mainly imported to PdbCal(PHENIX Calibration Database Framework) Calibration constants(Pedestal Gain RMS for each strip) Mutr Slow control Informations  FEM and GLINK Dallas Chip Infos(VDD I Temp)  Dallas chips in the MuTr system monitor the temperature, voltage and current of various electronics boards.  Alignment Infos  Low voltage infos  ADAM infos( Magnet Internal Air,Light source,Gas House ) Channel Map, Geom MuTr Objectivity/DB PHENIX database using Objectivity OODB for calibration data, file catalog, run info, etc. expecting ~100 GB/year of calibration data sophisticated set of classes to support calibration handling

Database SnapShot using ootoolmanager

Calibration constants are stable over time Take them every other day and put into database Monitor them by accessing calibration database Generate zero-suppression threshold files for DAQ based on calibration database Peak Charge distribution of cluster Monitoring … Pedestal, gain High Voltage FEE(Dallas Chip) Low Voltage Various Temperature MuTr Calibration Fit cathode clusters to Mathieson distribution xfit :21.83

Muon EventDisplay Visual interface to physics object Tool -> ROOT and its GUI Plain and 3D view, Pan, Rotation, Zoom,… Multiple dialogue box(Event,Track,Analysis) Interactive/Non-interactive control Raw ADC, Calibrated Charge,Fitted cluster position Tracks, Simulation object Diagnostics of detector at the commissioning stage Print-out of the information on the selected event and track Automatic scanning and display of the selected events Interactive histograming Optimization of analysis(selection cuts, alignment…) Things you can do (Developed by Y.Kwon Yonsei Univ)

Performance events thrown in to the South muon arm, no background, nominal detector resolutions, vertex z = 0.0 cm. Reconstructed J/psi mass (MC) Residual in a cathode plane from Real data

MuTr MuTr Lower-level routines (unpacking, etc.) completed Cluster Finding - done to first order. some tuning for dead channels, etc. Cluster Fitting - done to first order. modify fit function to get ultimate resolution Alignment - in progress > Hideyuki Kobayashi’s Talk(HAW01) Track Finding - working on tuning with missing hits (especially dead FEMs, HV channels). Track Fitting -Need to determine how to establish quality of track fitting with real data Muon Reconstruction Status

Summary South muon arm was commissioned in spring 2001, and took first beam data in July 2001. This year RUN is still ongoing. Calibration Database is tested successfully and being used now. geometry, dead channel information will be stored into database soon Event Display turned out to be a very good tool for Analysis at commissioning stage Main parts of data analysis are in progress as mentioned in reconstruction status
