Bounty hunters apprehend an estimated 30,000 bail jumpers per year. Typically, a bounty hunter works as an agent of a bail bondsman on a contingency fee, earning a payment once he has successfully apprehended a bail jumper and returned the fugitive to authorities in the appropriate jurisdiction. Bail can range anywhere from $500 to $100,000. Occasionally higher bail is set by the court for extreme circumstances, such as a murder charge or an extremely violent crime. Bail in medium- sized cities averages about $3,000 to $5,000, and the standard bounty hunter fee is 10 percent of the bond’s face value. According to figures promoted by some bounty hunter websites, a new bail enforcement agent can earn around $25,000 a year, while full-time, experienced bounty hunters who are willing to take high-risk assignments can make a bounty hunter salary of more than $100,000.

Bounty hunting is a job that will require you to maintain good relations and contacts with bail agencies, local sheriffs, attorneys and other elements of law enforcement. Without these connections finding work will be more difficult and you will not make as much money as you would if good contacts had been kept. In the long term, reliability and good tracking skills will be more important, but many bounty hunters say that who you know can be more important than how good you are when you are attempting to break into the industry. In order to enter the profession of bounty hunting, candidates are not required to possess any specific academic qualification. However, it is advisable to opt for formal education in the field of liberal arts, criminal justice, or business. Although formal degrees are not mandatory, a number of states require bounty hunters to possess licenses. There are some state-certified schools that offer certification courses to bounty hunters. In addition, it is extremely important to have a thorough understanding f the state laws. Each state has its own specific laws on bail enforcement and bounty hunting. Prior to applying for licensing, it is necessary to know the criteria for application in that state. For instance, in some states, it is not legal for bounty hunters to carry fire arms. Some other states require bounty hunters to wear visible identification tags. Still others, like Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Oregon, consider bounty hunting to be illegal.

Most bounty hunting schools and seminars are not for tactical training. They do not teach hand-to-hand combat, driving skills or shooting. Schools and seminars for bail enforcement agents, like CompassPoint Investigations and the National Institute of Bail Enforcement, provide practical information on becoming a successful bounty hunter. This skill set includes networking with law enforcement and other bounty hunters, marketing to bondsman, investigative skills to locate criminals and laws regulating bounty hunters. Those interested in tactical training must attend schools designed for tactical training, or select a bounty hunting school that provides additional classes in specific tactical areas. The Bounty Hunter Training Academy, while also providing seminars in basic bail enforcement, offers advanced classes on non-lethal weapons, hand-to- hand combat and operational strategy. For those interested in developing their tactical skills, a school like U.S. Training Center provide courses in shooting, SWAT, driving and protection.

It depend on the state but some state let them carry a firearm and a secondary weapon but some state let them use or carry pepper spray and a paintball gun that shoot out pepper spray and they carry taser.

Capture the fugitive and take him to jail. Don’t let the fugitive get away even if it your friend. Don’t shoot them if they don’t have a firearm. Only use pepper spray and a taser if it needed.

One of the benefits of becoming a fugitive recovery agent is the freedom and flexibility of the work schedule. Since bounty hunting is an unconventional profession, it often entails off-peak hours and the freedom to travel to various locations to recover fugitives. Many bounty hunters also find excitement in the search and recovery of assailants, making it a thrill seeking experience. Other benefits of the profession include the pay scale. If you are a bounty hunter, generally, you receive 10% of the bail bond for every fugitive recovered. Provided the bail bond is high, you can make a lucrative income from recovering fugitives. On the other hand, bounty hunting or bail enforcement can be dangerous and quite boring. Hours are often spent sitting and waiting while staking out the fugitive’s home and their most frequented places. Usually these fugitives will not return to jail willingly and they may even attempt to harm you. At times, you may find yourself in life-or-death situations. Difficulty in bounty hunting can also arise when looking for work. Unlike conventional law enforcement officers like police officers, who are employed by the county or state, bounty hunters are independent agents. If you are interested in becoming a bounty hunter, you must form relationships with bail bond agencies to obtain work.
