J-ESS Tutorial Change Phone Numbers and Emergency Notification

2 J-Ess Tutorial – Enter JMU e-ID & Password Enter your JMU e-ID and Password Then click Sign In to log in to JMU Employee Self-Service (J-Ess). Change Phone Numbers

3 J-ESS Tutorial – Emergency Notification If you have not completed the emergency notification enrollment process, you will receive this notice upon going to J-Ess. This message will not go away until you either OPT-IN or OPT-OUT of Emergency Notification. Important notice! After you indicate your choice, this message will no longer be displayed when you access J-Ess. In the future, you may receive a validation message that requires you to validate the accuracy of your cell phone number and emergency notification information. Click Continue to go to the phone numbers page.

4 J-Ess Tutorial – Click on Phone Numbers Link Note: If you have opted in or out of emergency notification alerts, you will no longer receive the Emergency Notification message but go directly to the J-Ess main menu. Click Phone Numbers to change or add a new home, office or cell phone number. Change Phone Numbers **EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION**

5 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Update Phone Number To edit a current phone number, click in the box and type the new phone number. Click Add a Phone Number to add a completely new number to your record. You will be able to select the Phone Type and enter the phone number.

6 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Phone Number Error If you update a phone number, make sure it is only ten digits or you will receive this error message when you try to save your changes. Do not enter dashes or slashes when you update a number. The system will format the number after you click off of the field.

7 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Add Cell Phone for Emergency Notification Select Cellular from the Phone Type drop down list and enter the phone number. Note: If you have not entered cell phone information and you wish to be notified in the event of an emergency, you will need to add a cell phone number.

8 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Opting Into Emergency Notification If you are opting into emergency notification, you must choose a Contact Method, either Text Message or Voice Recording. If you choose to be contacted via your cell phone number in case of an emergency, you will need to select the Authorization radio button.

9 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Validate and Save Opt-In Read the validation statement and make sure the Information Validated checkbox is selected. If you try to save your changes without selecting the checkbox, you will receive the message below. Click Save to save all changes to the phone numbers page, including emergency notification opt-in.

10 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Confirmation Message After clicking Save, you will receive two confirmation messages. Click OK to both.

11 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Deleting a Cell Phone To update a cell phone number, simply clear the existing number and re-enter the new number. To delete a cell phone type and number, use the Delete button. Note : Deleting a cell phone number also removes your ability to receive emergency notification alerts.

12 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Delete Confirmation Note Note: If you delete a cell phone number, you will receive two delete confirmations. If you are sure you wish to delete (instead of update) a cell phone number, select OK and Yes-Delete to the confirmation messages.

13 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Opting Out of Emergency Notification To opt-out of receiving emergency notification alerts, select the indicated radio button. You will not be notified via a text message or voice recording to your cell phone in the event of an emergency on campus. JMU uses multiple means of communicating emergencies to the university population. You are opting out of cell-phone notification only. After selecting the opt-out radio button, you will receive this message. Click OK.

14 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Validate and Save Opt-Out Read the validation statement and make sure the Information Validated checkbox is selected. If you try to save your changes without selecting the checkbox, you will receive the message below. Click Save to save all changes to the phone numbers page, including emergency notification opt-out.

15 Change Phone Numbers J-ESS Tutorial – Confirmation Message After you’ve saved your changes to the Phone Numbers page, you should receive a confirmation message.
