Math has high significance: Has potential to be greatest obstacle for a large proportion of the student population Creating multiple math pathways entails long-term work at all levels of system: faculty, institution, state.  Requires early and strategic planning. 3

The New Mathways Project A systemic approach to improving student success by reforming developmental and gateway mathematics based on four fundamental principles: 1.Multiple pathways aligned to specific fields of study 2.Acceleration that allows students to complete a college-level math course more quickly 3.Intentional use of strategies to help students develop skills as learners 4.Curriculum design and pedagogy based on proven practice 4
