GEO-NETCast Introduction and Live Demonstration Richard Fulton GEO-NETCast Co-Lead National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Satellite and Information Service Silver Spring, Maryland, USA GEO Architecture and Data Committee Meeting Seattle, Washington July 20, 2006

Version: 7/18/06 GEO Architecture and Data Committee Meeting, Seattle, Washingtonslide 2 What Is GEO-NETCast? GEO-NETCast is a real-time data dissemination system -- in support of the GEO societal benefit areas -- by which environmental satellite and in situ data, products, and services are transmitted to users through communications satellites and received on affordable receive stations. It is one component of the overall GEOSS architecture.

Version: 7/18/06 GEO Architecture and Data Committee Meeting, Seattle, Washingtonslide 3 Typical Receiver Station Configuration - Dedicated personal computer (~ $1000) Data analysis and processing should be done on separate computer(s) - Satellite antenna dish (1-3 m) (~ $ ) - DTH receiver card or box (~ $200)

Version: 7/18/06 GEO Architecture and Data Committee Meeting, Seattle, Washingtonslide 4 Temporary 1.2m Satellite Dish Installation for this Meeting
