WP 1: ScanBalt Campus Concept and Curriculum WP leader: Bo Samuelsson, Göteborg University (Total budget Euro)

WP 1 objectives:  Provide a concept for SBC  Provide a strategy and action plan for SBC  Provide a concept for ScanBalt Academy  Initiate ScanBalt Academy  Provide a concept for ScanBalt shared curricula  Create examples of shared curricula

Concept for ScanBalt Campus Starting point of the discussion (inspired by Anna Podhajska, Horst Klinkmann, Bo Samuelsson and the ScanBalt Strategy group): Triple helix Transnational Modular Bottom up Letters of intent already achieved !

ScanBalt Campus - Methodology Election of the Board Visits to institutions throughout ScanBalt BioRegion by Horst Klinkmann, BioCon Valley, and Bo Samuelsson Continued dialogue with heads of institutions Letters of intents from heads of institutions All partners - discusion of concept, strategy and actionplan at workshops, meetings, mail and phone based comments to drafts The board responsible for preparing drafts

ScanBalt Academy: Purposes (from vision paper prepared by Børge Diderichsen, Novo Nordisk): adds credibility to the scientific quality of ScanBalt projects and initiatives (when relevant) SBA or SBA committees serve as advisory boards of ScanBalt Campus (SBC) and other SB activities (when relevant) Members should be prepared, without any legal obligations, to give lectures or teach courses (on conditions determined individually) at universities and hospitals in ScanBalt BioRegion, in particular at those which are institutional members of ScanBalt and/or partners of SBC networks. Members should be prepared, at selected occasions such as congresses, EU meetings, press conferences etc to act as ScanBalt Ambassadors provided they receive appropriate support from SB secretariat or SB Executive Committee. Members should be prepared to act as evaluators on proposals for new SB activities and projects. SBA should help reverse brain-drain from SB BioRegion, and help to engage SB expatriates to engage in SB activities. SBA should organize an annual SBA Symposium, possibly in conjunction with SB Forum. The Symposium should include a ceremony for the uptake of new members

ScanBalt Academy – Methodology Establishment of an interim SBA chairman and an interim SBA-Board Establishment of an initial group of SBA members (e.g. 5-10) The board in dialogue with the ScanBalt Executive Committee responsible for preparing a draft concept, strategy and action plan All partners - discusion of concept, strategy and actionplan at workshops, meetings, mail and phone based comments to drafts

ScanBalt shared curricula (Initial considerations done by Horst Klinkmann): Mobility is compulsory At least 3 institutions in 3 different regions to be involved The ScanBalt Campus and Academy boards in dialogue with the ScanBalt Executive Committee responsible for preparing a draft concept, strategy and action plan All partners - discusion of concept, strategy and actionplan at workshops, meetings, mail and phone based comments to drafts The entire ScanBalt network will be used to establish first examples of shared curricula.
