IUCN Academy Directory of Environmental Law Resources Internet discussion forum for EL teachers Academy Electronic Journal Promotion of: Environmental law as “core” (compulsory) subject in Law curriculum Ph.D/SJD as desirable qualification for teachers Access to legal data-bases

2: CAPACITY-BUILDING Develop regional approach via associations of EL teachers Assist institutions re course development: Liaise with regional associations to identify needs institutions? Develop & deliver assistance via member institutions Teaching-the – teachers courses Secure funding for a Teaching Development Fund Teaching (and research) methodology workshops Development of model curricula: National, international & comparative environmental law Other? (e.g., climate law; biodiversity law; water law) Development of a common formula for LLM (Env.)

8 DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION of ACADEMY TEACHING PLAN
1. FURTHER DISCUSSION OF PLAN: 2-day meeting within next 3 months to discuss draft Teaching Plan in detail: Review proposed activities Identify priority activities; Funding needs; and Timetable for delivery; 2. ROLE OF GOVERNING COUNCIL: Establish Teaching & Capacity-Building Committee (June 2007) Approve final Teaching & Capacity-Building Plan (by December 2007)

3. 1st stage implementation: initiate actions of highest priority that require no new resources (Jan 2008) Directory Internet Forum Curriculum Development Specialist groups 4. Secretariat/Teaching Sub-C’ee to develop funding proposals for actions requiring new resources (Jan. – June 2008): Institutions (UNEP, etc.) Foundations Law publishers Other? 5. 2nd stage implementation: (July ): Recruit additional resources for Secretariat Commence initial projects Develop additional funding proposals
