Presentation transcript:

Monday, August 3 rd, 2015 Get your composition notebook and respond to the following: What do you believe in/value? Who and what has shaped the beliefs you carry. In what ways do your beliefs effect you and how you interact with others?

Taylor Mali: Totally Like Whatever, you know? Think About: 1. What is Mali’s purpose in this piece? Use examples to support. 2. Who is the intended audience and how does his style reveal this? Use examples to support. 3. What rhetorical devices is Mali using and what effect do they have on the overall piece? 4. How do you agree or disagree with Mali’s statement, “we've become the most aggressively inarticulate generation to come along since…you know, a long, long time ago”?

Personal Narrative Essay 1. Go back to your journal entry and review the beliefs you wrote down. Brainstorm past experiences that connect to those beliefs. 2. Choose two experiences and write a brief anecdote (short story, roughly one paragraph) on each. 3. Focus on using a mixture of showing and telling (Concrete language mixed with Green Word concepts). In other words, if your anecdote is representing determination, love, faith, etc., you want to show the idea/belief before you tell the belief. Your essay will encompass a more detailed and in-depth interpretation of this concept.
