1 EXHIBITION PRESENTATIONS PEER PRESENTATIONS 1 ST AND 2 ND APRIL

2 Introduce your audience to the exhibition! Tell them what artist(s) that were included in the exhibition – gender, nationality, race, ect. – Does this information matter? Give us a short bio on the artist Where was the exhibition? Dates + Location When did the artist make this body of work? Where did the artist make this work? Show us the poster or leaflet advertising the exhibition.

3 Explain the artist or curator’s purpose of the exhibition What did the artist of this body of work want to communicate to the audience? What is the intentions of the artists’ work? What is it about? What does the artist or curator’s statement say about the work? This is not your opinion! This is should be published information!!

4 Show us the gallery space so that we can get a feel of how the work was displayed at the exhibition Include your own images or images that the gallery has released What was your first impression of the work on display? Or the gallery space?

5 Describe the size and scale of the work Show us examples of the work. Does the size/scale of the work affect the way it is viewed by the public? How does the size affect the way you feel about the work? Is the size important to the idea of the work?

6 Techniques, Medium, Methods, Processes … How was the work produced? What is the subject matter? Is it familiar? Does it remind you of anything you have seen before? Show us work ….

7 Now …. Chose at least 3 images from the exhibition to analyse Show the images on screen – then talk to us about the following: Analyse the images for visual language Discuss line, shape, colour, tone, texture, space, perspective, light, composition, focal point, and other elements of design. Does the artwork suggest a mood? How does it make you feel? Discuss the qualities of emotion and atmosphere in the work. What devices has the artist used to create or achieve these?

8 Is the artwork about gender? Is the artwork about race? Is the artwork about class? Is the artwork about place?

9 WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL OPINION OF THE WORK?!

10 What do others think of this work? What have historians, other artists or critics said about the artwork? You should be able to find this information from your secondary research. You could show us reviews or critiques of the exhibition from magazines, journals or newspapers. Do you agree or disagree with their opinion?

11 Cultural Context Research what was happening in society at the time the work was produced. How did that influence this work? How has this artist influenced your work?

12 Some things to remember about your presentation: Your presentation will be marked! Be sure to include lots of visuals! Do not read a piece of paper! You need to speak to your audience! You can use notes, but don’t read from them, use them as a guide! You slides should have very little writing on them! Mostly visuals. Your slides will just help you to stay on track with your speaking! Include all primary and secondary research in your sketchbook, along with your essay.
