ID's Adam Lundquist

Today you will learn about two radio production pieces 1. ID's which are not legally required but are used 2. Top of the hour ID's

ID's Also called bumpers and sweepers

What you want in any ID Logo Frequency Slogan City/ License Between 2-5 secounds

Drops Drops are soundclips put into the ID's to make them more interesting or funny We are going to use soundflower to pick these up Provide flavor

Dry IDs Play them over a song minimal beats and effects Whispers, talking

Wet Played before or after songs Lots of beats drops, kind of enteraining on their own

Top of the hour Because there are so many signals (not just radio but police and fire) early broadcasters recognized how important it is for people to be able to tune in at a specifc time and hear From FCC perspective can tune in and tell which broadcasters are not following the rules

Top of the hour continued Must announce call sign, community of license, and any other call sign it uses If broadcasting on more than one frequencey must announce those as well Some also say the nearby city as well as their location as long as the first station said is the city of license Can not be in the form of a complete sentece. Identification/ City of license

Digital Radio § Station Identification. (b) Content. (1) Official station identification shall consist of the station's call letters immediately followed by the community or communities specified in its license as the station's location; Provided, That the name of the licensee, the station's frequency, the station's channel number, as stated on the station's license, and/or the station's network affiliation may be inserted between the call letters and station location. DTV stations, or DAB Stations, choosing to include the station's channel number in the station identification must use the station's major channel number and may distinguish multicast program streams. For example, a DTV station with major channel number 26 may use 26.1 to identify an HDTV program service and 26.2 to identify an SDTV program service. A radio station operating in DAB hybrid mode or extended hybrid mode shall identify its digital signal, including any free multicast audio programming streams,in a manner that appropriately alerts its audience to the fact that it is listening to a digital audio broadcast. No other insertion between the station's call letters and the community or communities specified in its license is permissible.
