What is the Achievement Gap?  When children enter kindergarten, there are already significant differences in literacy and math skills between children of low, middle and high socio-economic status (SES).  On average, children from low-income families show much less developed skills in the main areas necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Creating the Urgency In addition to having families sign the Parent Involvement Contract we explain to families WHY their partnership is so critical to promoting positive student outcomes Understanding the research of the Achievement Gap creates a sense of urgency for families and motivates them to engage as partners in our HS/EHS programs.

Four family practices to help close the achievement gap 1. Family Routines: Establish consistent family routines that help your child learn to regulate his/her behavior. 2.
