Plot Kids become restless after overhearing Ms. Avocet’s story Ms. Peregrine insists on Jacob spending the night in the loop Ms. Peregrine and Jacob go to the greenhouse to talk Ms. Peregrine explains the Wights and the Hollowgasts, also explaining Abe’s mysterious “hunts” from when Jacob’s father was a kid Jacob warns his father about the mysterious birdwatcher

Character Development Jacob Ms. Peregrine Becoming very Secretive On-Edge Determined Secretive Worried Protective Cautious Angry Scared Surprised Suspicious Serious Ms. Peregrine and Jacob have an unsteady relationship between them. They are very uncooperative with each other in the beginning of the chapter because Ms. Peregrine is very unwilling to speak about the wights and hollowgasts to Jacob.
