2. Use of Unique Word Choice Symbolism “'Tell us about the snake thing.' 'now he says it was a beastie.' 'Beastie?' 'A snake thing ever so big. He says he saw it.'“(Golding 36 ) This symbol represents the first trouble from the unknown It develops the allegory by showing that right now they are too civilized to fall into fear the unknown.in these circumstances one of the littleun's saw a snake thing which he called a "Beastie" and has called it to the attention of the others Connotation “Like a crowd of kids“ (38 ) This phrase connotates the children's behavior as they run off to make a fire and while watching them trip over each other piggy scoldingly says the quote above. It develops the analogy by showing how they are acting uncivilized and somewhat lawless. Imagery "the yellow flames that poured upwards and shook a great beard of flame twenty feet in the air" (41) This is imagery of the fire that the children had just lit to try to signal any boats. This is their first fire and it does go out of control. this develops the allegory by describing the massive fire that they have made which is a great achievement they completed by working together.

4. Golding uses dialog to develop character “ 'Then I'll give him the conch.' 'Conch?' 'That's what the shell is called'“ (33) This action shows some disorganization as they aren't all sharing information about what is needed to survive for as Ralph talks about using the shell for talking in turns as they are planning how they are going to set up their own government some don't even know what it is. It develops the allegory by showing that they really are just kids and since they are just kids they are incapable of maintaining government amongst themselves. This leads to disaster which develops the falling of society.

5. Golding uses Direct characterization to develop his characters example: "Piggy's breathing was quite restored. 'Like kids!' he said scornfully 'Acting like a crowd of kids!'" (38) Through Piggy's own speech Golding shows that Piggy is very proper. Piggy is the sensible one as the others nearly trample each other as they run to make a fire. [which foreshadows the fire, like the children, will go out of control.] How does this develop the allegory? Piggy is the underdog. It is guaranteed that the kids will not look up to the character that is in favor of the rules. they will instead follow the favorite strong character who is in favor of anarchy.

7. Internal Conflict example: "'That little'un that had a mark on his face- where is- he now? I tell you I don't see him.' The boys looked at each other fearfully, unbelieving. '-Where is he now?'" (46-47) This is the internal conflict experienced as they realized their foolishness cost a life and this foolishness continues to take them in a downward spiral as the deterioration of the government will begin.

Foreshadowing example: "Like a crowd of kids-" (pg 38) Piggy's comment is timely as the fire they create, due to their carelessness, goes out of control. this quote foreshadows also the same carelessness will later cause them to miss the rescue because Jack let the fire go out for he went hunting instead.

9. Archetypes example: Piggy represents the sensible proactive person. he is fat with specs and asthma because sensible and proactive people are what kids these age look down upon as "nerds" basically people who are really smart so smart in fact that other people hate them.
