Sculpture 1 & 2 Course Syllabus This course is designed to build upon knowledge from other art classes specifically using three-dimensional forms and ideas. The idea that art is a strong universal means of communication and self expression will be stressed.

Objective: Use the elements and principles of art to create a variety of three dimensional art works. Use a creative thought process to solve design problems Experiment with a variety of materials and processes Explore and be influenced by other artists and experiences Be able to discuss and communicate with art in a more sophisticated way

Requirements: Pass Art 1 in a previous year Be on time and attend regularly (20 or more unexcused absences can result in failure) Come prepared to class with any homework, pencil, and folder Pay class fee!

Please know… Vocabulary and articles, and interesting artists will be included with each project. You will be writing and discussing ideas in between and during art projects. Artists are not illiterate or non-verbal. As you will find, art doesn’t happen in a vacuum! Learning how to communicate with others is about knowing how to express yourself in many different ways.

Grading: Classroom Work: Small Projects/Exercises/Writing/Participation= 45% Assessments: Large Projects= 45% Midterm/Final=10%

Making and learning about art can be FUN! I want you to enjoy your time in this class. Please come to me with any suggestions for projects that you may want to work on individually. Expect to work hard in this course. Attitude and participation are key!
