Internet Security and Privacy  Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) need to be developed for appropriate technology use.  Students and faculty sign acknowledgement papers.  Firewalls and spyware are in place because of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Safety issues are involved to protect students Never meet face to face with cyberpals without parental permission. Never give out personal information without parental permission. Keep passwords private and in a safe place.

Creative Commons is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others legally to build upon and share.

is a form of protection provided by U.S. law to the creators of original works of authorship.

Fair Use A way teachers and students can use copyrighted material without having to ask the author’s consent while still crediting where they found the information.

Guidelines for Fair Use  No more than 5 images by 1 artist  Movies: up to 10 percent or 3 minutes, whichever is less  Text: up to 10 percent or 1,000 words, whichever is less  Numerical Data Sets: up to 10 percent or 2,500 fields or cell entries, whichever is less

 Poems: entire poem of less than 250 words, but no more than three poems by one poet or five poems by different poets from a single anthology  Music/Lyrics/Music Video: up to 10 percent, but no more than 30 seconds of music and lyrics from a single musical work  Images: no more than 5 images by 1 person and no more than 10 percent or 15 images from a single published work
