JOHN WILKES BOOTH BY: ALEXIS GILLOW & SAMUEL HUCHINSON

JOHN WILKES BOOTH AS A CHILD. John Wilkes booth was born on august 26, 1838 and died in 1865.before he was a criminal he was a famous actor who played in many of Shakespeare’s plays including Romeo and julet where he played Romeo. As a child he had dark hair and was athletic as well as handsome. He was one of 10 other children in his family. He was considered irresistible to women.

INCENTIVES There were many reasons booth wanted to kill Lincoln. One was that booth thought that it was Lincoln's fault for the civil war. It was also to let the confederate prisoners to be let free. His first idea was to kidnap Lincoln and hold him for ransom. After that failed, he came up with the idea to kill Lincoln, the vice president, and cabinet members.

WHAT HAPPENED? The Lincolns were watching a play called our American cousin when booth snuck into the presidential box and shot Lincoln in the back of his head. Meanwhile one of his accomplices tried to kill the vice president by chocking him to death.

THE GET AWAY. After all that, he jumped off of the ledge screaming “Sic simper tyrannis!”(“thus ever to tyrants!”), broke his leg and escaped away on horseback. On April 26, 1865 Calvary, detectives and secret service agents found Booth at the Garrett tobacco barn. The barn was set afire and a shot rang.

RUMORS As time passed, people said that the man killed was not booth but there was no proof to support that theory.

HOW HE CHANGED HISTORY Booth was important to history because he stood up for what he believed in and never stopped believing that he was right. He shows us that you should never stop believing in something worth believing in.
