B’s Galvez de,Bernardo – Spaniard who held of British in New Orleans, but allowed Americans use of the port. Franklin, Benjamin- Author, publisher,inventor and diplomat.

C’s Attucks,Crispus-American hero and martyr of the Boston Massacre Confederation- United in a league, alliance, or conspiracy.

D’s Declaration of Independence- Document written by Thomas Jefferson claiming Independce from Great Britain. Doroethea Dix- Reformer who fight to improve the care of the mentally ill.

E’s English Bill of Rights-called for frequent election; guaranteed right to bear arms,farbade cruel and unusual punishment; restated trial by jury. Whitney, Eli- Invented the cotton gin and interchangeable parts.

O’s Oregon Country- Prairie schooners went across the great plains along the Platte River, and through the south pass of the rocky mountains.

P’s Patrick Henry- patriot from Virginia, opposed ratification or Constitution because of potential limitations on states rights “Give me liberty or give me death” Property Rights- the right to own property

Q’s Quakers- Believed that every individual an “innerlight” that could lead him or her to salvation. John Quincy Adams- 6 th president, Member of the congress and favored strong nationalism government against states rights and opposed the pro-slavery message of john C. Calhoun

R’s Republican Party- modern republican party Formed before the civil war as an anti –slavery party Abraham Lincoln was the first republican president. Ralph Waldo Emerson- writer and poet. Popularized the idea of transcendentalism

S’s Samuel Morse- Inventor of the Telegraph Samuel Adams- Boston patriot who oppose British taxation. He established the committee of correspondence. Leader of the sons of Liberty and insisted a Bill of Rights be assed to the Constitution before ratification
