Presentation transcript:

Bell Ringer: In the movie, “I am Legend,” Will Smith is a doctor that is trying to cure the zombie virus. He does this by testing infected rats with a particular mix of steroids. His newest mix is called “Drug A012.” He injects 10 infected rats with “Drug A012”daily. He compares the drug reaction and zombie like symptoms to 10 infected rats that have not been treated with Drug A012” ANSWER THE FOLLOWING: What is this experiment's: 1. Independent variable 2. Dependent variable 3. Experimental group 4. Control group 5. Will Smith’s Hypothesis

What type of graph should we use? FOLDABLE

Pie Graph Good for: Percentages Comparisons Parts of a whole Bad for: Displaying amounts Graphing over time NOTE: You must label the percentages within the pie graph*

Why was this type of graph used?

Bar Graph Good for: Categories in random order Counts or frequencies Bad for: Large amounts of data Accuracy

Unemployment College Graduates vs. High School Graduates with No College Why was this type of graph used?

Line Graph Good for: Graphing over time Continuous data Showing changes Bad for: Percentages

Why was this type of graph used?

1 st decide what type of graph to use… 2 nd decide the scale for the X & Y Axis Lets practice with this set of data

Student Survey and Graphing Practice Ask your classmate their opinion for each of the 5 questions This should take about 10 second each. This is data collection: Step 2 of Scientific Method! You must tally your classmate’s guess in the appropriate table. You have until the timer sounds to complete all the surveys.

Data Analysis: Graphing Put your Graphing Skills to the TEST The reason we talk about graphing in EES is because it is an important part of the scientific method – Data Analysis You will hand this in for a Grade. - The focus is on the TWO graphs - You choose which question you would like graph the data from
