SWG Mechatronics Presentation of region and cluster activities Region of Veneto Bologna, January 18th, 2011

Mechanics & Metallurgy in Veneto Year 2009 counts units in the sector at large (44% of Manufacturing registered companies) are dealing with electrical equipment (EE), where are properly producing mechanics (MP). Q3_10 data shows the following trends: OutputFX ordersExport EE- 2,3% - 5,0%+ 2,0% MP- 5,7% + 6,0%- 1,6% In the critical 2009, exports of mechanics decreased by 26,6%, where still being 18,6% of total Venetian exports. No one of ADC partner countries Is among the first 10 export countries of Venetian mechanics (Data of Study Centre of UnionCamere Veneto)

Main Venetian Clusters in Mechatronics (target) Location 1.District of Air-conditioning & Industrial Freezing(Padua) 2. North East Packaging District(Vicenza) 3. Metadistrict of Mechatronics (Vicenza) Metadistricts feature regional networks of associated companies

Venetian RFG on Mechatronics 1.Regional invitation for expression of interest to relevant Clusters (July – August) 2.Rally of inter-sectoral meeting with cluster representatives and interested companies (Venice, October 5 th, 2010) 3.RFG 1 for Modern Housing (Venice, January 11 th, 2011) The operational implementation in Veneto Region slowed due to major changes occurred in the regional administration.

Expectations of Venetian clusters and associated companies True interest to establish standing new contacts with SEE Actual commitment for sharing good practices in particular for improvement of quality standards sustainable productive techniques Making more of Knowledge Based Services (KBS) Sharing of innovation sources Import & export facilitation within the Internal Market & ACs Matching with new potential partners, also for global promotion

Experience of Veneto Region for successful implementation of PEV Veneto Region supported a number of activities and missions for the enhancement of international ties & global promotion of Venetian Clusters (e.g. Brazil, Russia). Moreover, since 2002 Venetian bodies implemented community projects on the subject of transnational networking of clusters (see INDE project )

Experience of Veneto Region for successful implementation of ADC Multiplier effects with ADC can be achieved by synergies with the following projects: 1. Challenge projectwww.progettochallenge.itwww.progettochallenge.it on human capital development for overcoming critical factors of districts development (Venetian regional funding) 2. TACTICSINNO Net project On the facilitation of better cluster policy at EU level by developing practical tools for 6 main thematic areas to be implemented at national & regional level. The agency Veneto Innovazione is the only Italian partner.

Suggestions of Veneto Region for successful implementation of PEV Pivotal for the encouragement of the cluster representatives and companies is the visibility of who is coming on from the partner countries and the establishment of direct relationship between relevant stakeholders for promoting ownership of the expected results. A call for proposal could be delivered after SWG 2 for the establishment of a pipeline of project ideas (one page form) facilitating partnerships and shaping the bulk of an ADC programme for the sector.
