Strategies for talking activities

Strategies – Talking 1 Think about this before you start: Read the instructions carefully so you don’t misunderstand what to do. If there is something you don’t understand you can ask the teacher or your classmate, as long as you do it in English. Look at the pictures in order to get some clues about the theme and what you can talk about.

Strategies – Talking 2 Think about this when you talk: Only use English when you talk. Don’t use any Swedish words. Be active in the conversation and talk as much as you can. However, don’t forget to invite the others to talk as well. Don’t let the conversation “die”. Interact with each other by commenting on what the others say and asking them many questions. Show the others that you are interested in what they have to say.

Strategies – Talking 3 Think about this when you talk: Think about the grammar when you talk. Try to use as many different words as possible in order to vary the way of expressing yourself. Think about your pronunciation. If you talk about what you think about something, don’t forget to explain why.

Strategies – Talking 4 Think about this if you get stuck: If you don’t understand you can ask the others to: - Say it again - Not talk so fast - Explain it in another way. Use a strategy if you don’t know a word. You can for example: - Use body language and gestures - Use sounds - Use synonyms (words that mean the same thing) - Try to explain what you mean in other words.
