The Starter What is the internet ? – It is the connection of networks across the world. – Différent services are made available on the internet. 2Computer Terminologieg unit12 Nahed AlSalah

The services are: Sending and receiving text messsage ( electronic mail) Accessing newsgroups ( group of users who send and read messages on a particular topic) Usenet ( user network) Chatting to other users using text message in real-time (immediately while users are logged on to the system). IRC (internet relay chat) Copying files e.g. program files, between computers on a network. Copying files from a server computer to a client computer is known as downloading and copying from a client to a server is uploading FTP ( file transfer protocol) 3 Computer Terminologieg unit12 Nahed AlSalah

The services are: Logging on (connecting to a network system account,normally using password to your local server from across a network communications system at a distance e.g. from other country. Telenet Taking part in simulations in a shared environment. each person assumes a persona and communicates using text message. Computer –Mediated Communication ( CMC ) Asynchronous : the participants are not on line at the same time and there are delays between messages. Ex: mobile phone messages, chat rooms, s, bulletin boards, newsgroups /discussion list. Synchronous : the participants being on line at the same time.There may be a few seconds delay. Videoconferencing Is a form of communication over a network that uses videos cameras so that taking part can see and hear each other. Features : – There’s no opportunity for paralinguistic features ( gestures ). – Users develope no.
