Presentation transcript:

How to Draw the Face

The face is the feature which best distinguishes a person.

 When you begin drawing your portrait you must look, and measure carefully the relationship between the sizes of parts of the head - the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

This is called PROPORTION

Taking time to do it well will improve your portrait and make it look more like you!

 Then, using TONE, you will show the form of the face.

The form and structure or how the face is formed is also important.

 The first layer of the face is the skeleton or skull

 Muscle and cartilage is then formed on top of the skull

 The final layer, the layer we see, is skin and hair

Let's get started by measuring the proportions of the face.

Each group will measure, in turn, a real person, to try to find the correct position of the features of the face - eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

The group will then mark down on a basic face shape where they think the features should go.

Good luck! You will need rulers, pen/pencils, and a basic face shape.
