Recap from Last Week: 1. As it is in Heaven 2. On Earth

Recap from Six Sessions: God, Our Heavenly Father; God’s Holiness; God’s Kingdom; God’s Will God’s Rule

Transition in the Prayer: “God Focused to Our Needs”

Matthew 6:25,33 He said, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well"

Matthew 6: “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

1. Our Daily Bread: Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

†‘Bread’: the staple food of the people in the Middle Eastern world. †Bread symbolizes life and it is the nourishment that sustains life.

1.1 Manna for Each Day: Exodus 16:4 4 Then the L ORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day….

1.2 Jesus’ First Temptation: ‘Stone to Bread’ Matthew 4:2-4 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Deut. 8:3)

2. Give Us: Matthew 6:11 11 Give us this day our daily bread.

2.1 God is Our Provider: Exodus 16:4 4 Then the L ORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day….

2.2 Holy Providence Proverbs 30:8-9 8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the L ORD ?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

2.3. Recipients of Providence: Numbers 11:8 8 The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil.

Summary: 1. Our Daily Bread 2. Give Us Conclusion: We trust God’s providence daily as he blesses the works of hands.

Discuss the Following Questions: 1. What are challenges and struggles that we have in trusting God’s providence? 2. How can we increase our faith level to trust God to provide all our daily needs?
