Writing in AP Lit Day Three: Conclusions Return to the AP LIT Writing Guide notes pages and make a sub- heading: Elements of Superior Conclusions

The Two Elements (typically 1-2 Sentence Each) 0 Summary Statement: look at your thesis statement again and rework it in a new way. Avoid repeating key words and phrases from the thesis statement because you don't want the summary statement to sound boring or repetitive. Also avoid telling us what you just did in your essay body. 0 Clincher Statement: also referred to as the closer, is your last opportunity to connect with the reader. Below are some clincher options: 0 Respond: What if the work didn’t have the element analyzed? How would it be impacted? How successful is Kafka in the use of the element? 0 Imagery from a significant scene that captures the thesis well. 0 Reflect on how your essay topic relates to the book as a whole. Thematic 0 Connect back to your creative opening 0 Give a personal statement about the topic (without “I”) Connect to LIFE 0 Give your opinion of the novel’s value or significance (without “I”)

Conclusions Practice 0 Craft and Share 0 Summary Statements 0 Clincher Statements: Practice writing each type of clincher statement 0 Respond: What if the work didn’t have the element analyzed?
