Announcement of Death to St. Fina (1477)

Domenico Ghirlandaio ( ) Domensio was the eldest of six children, although only him and two of his brothers survived childhood. He became a goldsmith’s apprentice and created jewelry, but would often paint the people who commonly passed by the shop. Some of his earliest major works are the frescos he was commissioned to paint for the Santa Fina Chapel in His later works included many portraits, such as the one he painted of Lorenzo de' Medici. He is also famed for having had Michelangelo as one of his apprentices, although this was only for a short time.
