Feminist Art Western civilization has been dominated by men and a male point of view. Traits of what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine are cultural constructs that are based on male dominance. Females have occupied a largely subordinate role to men in all fields of endeavor. Feminist criticism seeks, in part, to correct this imbalance.
