Reading Graphs Everyday Math Lesson 10.7

Lesson Objectives I canread and analyze line graphs and answer questions based on the displayed data. I can identify and use patterns in graphs to match graphs with situations.

Mental Math Round each number to the nearest whole number 25. 4 36.9 89.7 50.92 74.09 63.52 70.364 36.084 306.909

Study Link Follow Up Take out your HW. Share answers with your table and resolve any differences.

MathMessage ( 3 minutes) Solve problems 1-4 on journal page 356. I will hand out post-it notes to the students when they enter the classroom to use during the math message.

Math Message Follow-Up Let’s discuss your answers. What else do you notice about the graph? What does the graph show about the distance each person traveled? Whose line is the steepest? Whole line is the least steep?

**Complete journal pages 356 and 357 with a partner** Reading Graphs Look over the graphs and descriptions on pg. 357. What does each graph represent? How are the axes labeled? Why does the line for Tom start at 50 yards and the line for Alisha start at 0 yards? How long does it take to run 100 meters according to the graph in problem 2? **Complete journal pages 356 and 357 with a partner**

Interpreting Mystery Graphs 5 mystery graphs are shown at the top of pg. 358. Match each graph with the correct description. 4 graphs are only used once, and one graph is not used at all. Students will turn in page 165 for a formative assessment.

Playing First to 100 Play “First to 100” with a partner to practice solving open number sentences. Directions are on pg. 308 in the SRB.

Independent Practice Independently work on math boxes page 359. If you get done, you may work on Study Link 10.7.
