“O YOU OF LITTLE FAITH” Pine Grove Church of Christ – 07/25/10

“O You of Little Faith”  Faith comes by Hearing (Romans 10:17)  The just shall live by Faith (Habakkuk 2:4)  Faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6)  Faith overcomes the World (I John 5:4)  Great Faith (Matthew 8:8-10)  Dead Faith (James 2:17)  Little Faith (Mt. 6:25-34; 8:23-27; 14:22-33; 16:1-12)

“O You of Little Faith”  A Rebuke of Worry

A Rebuke of Worry  Matthew 6:25-34  (30) “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”

A Rebuke of Worry  Psalm 37:25 –  “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.”

A Rebuke of Fear  Psalm 27:1 –  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

A Rebuke of Fear  Hebrews 13:5-6 –  (5) “I will never leave you nor forsake you”  (6) “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

A Rebuke of Fear  Romans 8:31-39 –  (31) “If God is for us, who can be against us?”  (35-39) Nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”

A Rebuke of Doubt  Matthew 14:22-33  (31) “And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

A Rebuke of Doubt  Hebrews 11:6 -  “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

A Rebuke of Doubt  James 1:5-8 –  “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind”

A Rebuke of Doubt  Acts 10:17-20 –  “Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

A Rebuke of Shallow Thought  Matthew 16:1-12  “But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, ‘O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?”

A Rebuke of Shallow Thought  Romans 14:14-21 –  “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit”

Conclusion  Four attitudes: Worry, Fear, Doubt, & Shallow Thought  All are characterized by one common factor: “O you of little faith”  Let us grow in our faith so that we may not worry, fear, doubt, or have shallow thought.  So that we can be as the centurion, a man of great faith.
