“WCDI BaH presentation of the results” Organization of women “LARA” and “Zene zenama” Bosnia and Herzegovina

ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN “LARA” “LARA” was established in 1998 by a group of women who already had experience in work of NGO’s, and also had professional experience on the fields of journalism, law, medicine and education, and by a group of young girls who are bringing new ideas in the organization and learning at the same time from their older colleagues. ” LARA” is non-governmental organization whose main activity is focused on helping and improving the position of women in society.

“Zene zenama” “Zene zenama” “Zene zenama have very important role in development of civil society in BiH. They are enough other things working with empowerment and capacity building of women’s organizations trough the country. In 2006/2007 organized 6 seminars for woman in politics (Tomislavgrad, Kladanj, Tuzla, Gorazde, Bosansko Grahovo and Bosanska Krupa). On those seminars participated 100 women, who were active in politics and belong to different political parties.

SEMINARS “Lara” “ BASIC SEMINAR WOMEN CAN DO IT “- (We organized two basic seminars in Orasje and Simin Han) On those seminars participated 50 women “ WOMEN POLITICANS CAN DO IT” – (We organized 5 political seminars in Trebinje, Zvornik, Brcko, Doboj and Teslic) On those seminars participated 145 women, who were active in politics and belong to different political parties “ WOMEN CAN DO IT FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA” - (We organized one seminars for journalists in Bijeljina. In this seminar participated 21 journalistis, 18 women and 3 man )

LOCAL ACTIONS We organized 5 local actions Three local action before election in Trebinje (public discussion on local radio, with participation of female candidates from their region) Zvornik (round table “Women in politics) Brcko -Bijeljina- Donji Zabari (round table “Women in politics and two press-conference) Two local actions we organized after elections (Doboj-public discussion about importance of women participation in politics, Teslic-workshop for parents on topic of drug-addiction)

In the 2006 elections, the number of female candidates surpassed the 30% quota, and the number of women elected has risen dramatically the : 18.28% 21.43%, and 14.29% to the Republika Srpska National Assembly, Federation BiH Parliament, and BiH Parliament, respectively. Overall, the numbers of certified candidates under 30-years old, among whom 56.68% were women and 43.32% were men. “ BiH political scene”
