Textbook and access code Textbook – Intermediate Algebra, 5 th edition by K. Elayn Martin-Gay, published by Prentice Hall. This course is a computer based course. All assignments for this course will accessed through a publisher’s website. (ua.mylabsplus.com)ua.mylabsplus.com An access code will be necessary to complete your assignments. No work can be completed until you have entered an access code into your account.

Access Codes Access codes may be purchased with or without a printed version of the textbook. You may purchase the code with the textbook at any of the bookstores in town. You may purchase the code without a printed version of the book either at one of the bookstores in town or online on the ua.mylabsplus website set up for your specific math course. The web site for the University Supply store is Again, no work can be completed until you have entered your access code into your account.

Access Codes - Repeating Students If you are repeating the course, you will need to come to the instructor station in the MTLC to get a free access code. Again, YOU are responsible for handling this prior to the first deadline in the syllabus.

DISABILITY ACCESS For those students wishing to request disability accommodations, please contact the Office of Disability Services at After initial arrangements are made with that office, then contact your professor. Your professor will be glad to work with you to make sure your needs are properly met.

Course Grades Possible grades in this course are A, B, C (+/-) or NC. A grade of NC means you receive no credit for this course. You must take the course again, but an NC does not affect your GPA. The last day to withdraw from the course: Wednesday, March 24 No withdrawals will be given after this date.

Course Grades 4 tests (100 points each) 400 pts Final Exam300 pts Homework average (18 points each test period) 72 pts Quiz average (40 points each test period)160 pts Class Attendance (14 weeks, 2 pts each week) 28 pts Lab Attendance ( 13 weeks, 3 pts each week) 39 pts Survey 2 pts TOTAL 1001 pts Note: You must earn a minimum of 700 points to get credit for this course.

Class Attendance Beginning the week of 1/19, we will have class only on Wednesdays (MWF/MW classes) or Thursdays (TR classes). The first week we will meet every class day (MWF or TR) Every student is required to be present the entire scheduled class time. Students will earn 2 points a day toward the class attendance grade for meeting this requirement.  TO BE COUNTED PRESENT, YOU MUST SIGN THE CLASS ROLL.

Lab Attendance Students need to spend a minimum of 4 hours a week in the MTLC doing math work. TO GET CREDIT FOR LAB HOURS, YOU MUST SWIPE YOUR ACT CARD WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE LAB. Anyone caught swiping another student’s ID will be charged with academic misconduct. Lab hours are counted from Sunday to Friday each week. Hours from one week do not roll over to another week. Students will earn 3 points a week toward the lab attendance grade for 4 lab hours. Partial points will be awarded for fewer than 4 hours. However, if you make a score of at least 70 on all assignments (hw and qz) due for a particular week, you will automatically earn the lab attendance points for that week without having to spend any time in the lab.

Lab Attendance In the example below, both students must spend four hours in the lab to receive full lab attendance points for the week. NOTE: While a missed assignment MAY NOT hurt your average, it WILL prevent you from automatically earning lab attendance points for that week. Student 1Student 2 HWQuizHWQuiz Section Section

Common Rules for the Center ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD, DRINKS, TOBACCO PRODUCTS, CELL PHONES, COMPANIONS, OR PROFANITY ARE ALLOWED. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Quizzes & Homework There will be graded homework assignments for each section. Multiple attempts are allowed on homework. Be sure to click on the “Submit” button when you are ready to record your homework score. You may submit homework before the assignment is finished and return to it later. There will be a quiz given after each section. Click on the “Submit” button when you are ready to record your quiz score. Two attempts are allowed on quizzes. The better score will be used in your grade computation. You will be allowed to drop your lowest homework grade and your lowest quiz grade each test period. Make-up work may be allowed. You must submit a petition request form, with excuse and supporting documents attached, within two days of missed work.

Working at Home Students may do homework and quizzes from home by downloading all of the necessary plug-ins. Web page: ua.mylabsplus.comua.mylabsplus.com Use the installation wizard on the announcement page in the software. Be sure to check for ALL components and install all necessary plug-ins. However, if grades are not successfully sent from home for any reason, you will not be able to retry the work after the deadline has passed. If you work from home, you should work well ahead of the deadlines so that you will have time to come to the MTLC to take care of any problems before the assignment deadline. All tests must be completed in the MTLC.

Replacement Policy Everyone will be allowed to replace his or her lowest test grade with the grade made on the final exam. If a test is missed due to a serious, verifiable circumstance, the zero test grade can also be replaced with the final exam grade. This will only be done if a petition request form is filed within 2 days at 345 Gordon Palmer, and if the petition request panel approves the excuse. Zero grades due to unexcused absences or academic misconduct will not be automatically treated as your lowest test score. (Must petition)
