Welcome to Back to School Night

Parent Profiles How many of your children have gone through kindergarten? This is my first! (Take a deep breath!) I survived one…it’s my second! I’m a veteran…this is my third (or more).

We use Math in Focus: The Singapore Approach The math skills we work on in Kindergarten include: Addition and subtraction (including calculator skills) 1 to 1 correspondence and counting Number identification and number writing Problem Solving Graphing and data analysis Measurement (Introductions to time, money, weight, and length)

Report Cards Conferences: November and March Report Cards: (based on PA Standards) Here are examples from the Report Card: General SkillsLanguage Arts *Math ** Writes first name (capital first, rest lowercase) Identifies capital & lower case letters Counts to 30, 70, 100 States BirthdayIdentifies beginning and ending sounds in words Id. numbers to 0-20, 70, 100 Writes numbers to 10, 20, 30 Address and phone number Identifies and extends rhymesReads a graph Listening & Speaking SkillsHandwritingIdentifies 2-D Shapes Characteristics of Successful Learners Writing: Understands letter/sound relationships, correctly spells high frequency words, writes simple sentences 1 to 1 correspondence Extends and designs a pattern * We will also assess blending, high frequency words, story elements, writing last names, and conventions of writing by June. ** We will also assess skip counting, addition/subtraction, coin identification, non-standard measurement, and will have higher expectations for counting, number identification, and number writing.

Volunteers Needed! Ways to help: Work at home (cutting, gluing, tracing, etc.) Kid Writing and Centers Holiday/Seasonal Events Field Trip If you haven’t already, please complete the Volunteer Form and send it back to school as soon as possible. I will send a confirmation notice once I organize our classroom volunteers. Thank You!
