6. Our Kindergarten Philosophy Our Kindergarten program is designed to instill a love of learning within your child. We believe that all students are capable, curious, and creative learners. We encourage children to treat others the way that they would like to be treated.

12. Why is Invented or Temporary Spelling Important? It allows children to express ideas without any fears of being right or wrong. It helps children learn to read by giving them practice connecting sounds to letters. It encourages children to become independent writers.

13. Interactive or Shared Writing Teaches good writing strategies that will be helpful when doing independent writing Breaks down the writing process into the smallest of steps, with much support and room for risk taking

15. Speech and Language Development Research has shown that by age five, children are able to create 5 to 6 word sentences and have a vocabulary of 1,500 to 2,500 words.** What Parents Can Do.. Talk to your child. Listen to your child. Read to your child often. Play games, both word games and dramatic play. Provide new experiences. Make language and speech fun for your child.

16. What is Phonemic Awareness? Phonemic awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the individual sound units (phonemes) in spoken language, to examine language independent of meaning, to see relationships between sounds in words, and to rearrange sounds to create new words.

19. Wilson Fundations Fundations is systematic because it follows a very defined sequence for teaching and it follows a specific procedure for teaching these concepts.
