35 REMOVING AN EXCHANGE SERVER USING EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD Preferred method Setup removes all references to the server in Active Directory

36 PREREQUISITES FOR REMOVING AN EXCHANGE SERVER WITH EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD Move or remove all mailboxes Not a bridgehead server Not a routing group master Not part of any connection agreements Cannot have any connectors installed and in use Special roles must be transferred

37 FORCIBLE REMOVAL Not the recommended option Use if you cannot use Exchange Installation Wizard Use if you have a lot of mailboxes you no longer need and don’t want to remove them manually Only removes references in Active Directory Additional registry editing required

38 FORCIBLY REMOVING EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 Use Exchange System Manager Click Yes to ignore the warning Delete the required registry keys as listed in the Help file Remove the IIS components required by Exchange Server 2003 (if they are not used for anything else)

39 AFTER FORCIBLY REMOVING EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 Reboot the server Delete the folder structure and contents for Exchange Server installation If server is installed in an Exchange Server 5.5 site, delete the object in Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator (Optionally) reinstall Windows Reapply service packs
