Migration Highlights 21-day grace period Answer file generator Migrate without taking down servers Destination server joins the existing domain (replica DC) Uninterrupted mail flow between both servers No need to touch client workstations

Verify successful backup Test restore random files Backup tools Backup Configuration WizardThird-party backup software Configure a full backup of the source server Include boot and system partitionsSystem state data Perform a virus scan Pre-migration tasks

Manage Exchange Server mailboxes Verify database integrity Delete unnecessary mail Archive old mail Remove junk documents Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007 Shared folders Former employees profile folders

Tools SBS 2003 Best Practice Analyzer (SBS BPA) checks: Exchange Server Update service Network configuration Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services The Microsoft SQL Server® database software Windows support tools Netdiag.exe - Helps isolate networking and connectivity issues Dcdiag.exe - Analyzes the state of domain controllers Repadmin.exe - Assists you in diagnosing replication

Verify the latest service packs are installed on the source server Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack 2 Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 Windows SharePoint Services 2.0

What is Active Directory® Domain Services (AD DS)? Remove Windows Server 2000 domain controller Windows® NT 4.0 Raise the functional level Active Directory Domain functional level Active Directory Forest functional level

Migrating line-of- business applications (LOB) Verify LOB is supported on Windows Server 2008 Check LOB manufacturers site for latest drivers and patches Check LOB manufacturers site for “known issues” Test LOB and non-Microsoft applications Verify that all x64 Kernel Mode Software is Signed

Reconfigure the existing network On the router, verify: The network uses a private IP address range (192.168.0.0/24, 172.16.0.0/12, 10.0.0.0/8) IP addresses are properly specified in the answer file Source server to use one (1) network adapter If present, remove the NIC connected to the broadband connection from the server Re-run the CEICW and configure the server for single NIC operation Destination server (SBS 2008) Connect one (1) network adapter to DHCP-disabled router

SBS 2003 Single NIC SBS 2008 Single NIC DHCP Server Service ISP connection device Switch Router Internet Migration wizards turns off DHCP on source server during migration Source Destination

To run the Migration Preparation Tool, you must be a member of the Enterprise Admins group, the Schema Admins group, and the Domain Admins group. To run the Migration Preparation Tool, you must be a member of the Enterprise Admins group, the Schema Admins group, and the Domain Admins group. Migration Preparation Steps What does Migration Preparation Tool accomplish? Runs Adprep.exe, which extends the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) schema and prepares the forest and domain Must be member of Schema Admins group to run Adprep and upgrade the schema Installs a QFE extending the migration time limit (requires reboot) Prepares Source Server to migrate Exchange Server 2003

What if? What happens to the e-mail flow while I am migrating Exchange Server data? What is a schema update? What happens if I do not remove old Group Policy objects and logon settings? Where do I find my fax data after it is moved?

The Migration Answer File You must create an answer file for migration SBSAfg.exe found in the \tools folder on the SBS 2008 installation disc

Clock and time zone settings Must match server system clock Company information Company information (optional) Certification authority (optional) Source server information Domain administrator account Password Source server name Source domain name Source server IP address Default gateway DHCP is running on the Source Server Destination server information Destination server name Destination server IP address

The Migration Wizard Installs and configures the DHCP service on the destination server Destination server becomes the site licensing server Destination server becomes a global catalog server Transfers the FSMO roles to the destination server Extends the migration grace period to 21 days Joins the destination server to the existing domain Installs and configures SBS 2008 on the destination server

Starting the migration mode Installation disc \ sbsanswerfile.xml Detected by installation in the root directory of any removable media or the root partition of a drive on the new server

Installing Windows SBS 2008 Insert removable media containing answer file Start destination server with the SBS2008 DVD Add product key, read and accept license terms Create and select operating system partition Setup will copy temporary files Setup in Migration Mode Starts attended/unattended mode Unattended – silent install Attended – manually answer questions Performs permanent changes on Source Server

Migration tasks Configure the network (required) Run the Connect to the Internet Wizard Run the Internet Address Management Wizard Migrate network settings (optional) Migrates DNS forwarders Migrates mobile users group Migrate Exchange Server mailboxes /settings (optional) Remove Internet connectors Remove POP3 connectors Move mailboxes Move offline address book Move Exchange Server public folders

Remove old Group Policy objects and logon scripts Modified logon scripts should be renamed Logon scripts only apply to accounts added by the Add User Wizard Delete all Small Business Server GPOs Remove WMI filters Migrate users' shared folders and users' folder redirection settings (optional) Identify shared folders on source server Document share permissions on source server Create new shares on destination server Configure permissions Copy shared folders from source server to destination server

Migrate the internal Web site (optional) Source server tasks: Configure CompanyWeb on source server for access from Destination server Run the prescan tool on the source server Stop internal website on the sources server Backup content database Detach database Destination server tasks: Configure forward lookup zone Attach the content database Create a new Web site to host the new internal site Create a CNAME record Create a new SharePoint Services Web application Reset IIS

Migrate fax data (optional) Backup fax data on source server Use Migration Fax Wizard on destination server Migrate groups Migrated during initial migration of AD DS Must assign Created value using ADSIedit Migrate user accounts Create custom user roles on the destination server Use the Run the Change User Role Wizard Map permitted computers to user accounts

Uninstall Exchange Server 2003 Uninstall Exchange before demoting the Source Server Remove references in AD DS Demote the Source Server Run dcpromo Remove Source Server from AD DS What should you do with the Source Server? Reformat it Install a server operating system Set it up for use as an additional server
